THE AUXILIARY COMMITTEES

There are 20 committees in the National Auxiliary divided into three main categories: Mission Outreach Programs, Member Support Committees, and Administration Committees. Key core programs that we would like to focus on as a Unit are designated by an ‘*’ before the subject title.

MISSION OUTREACH PROGRAMS

*Girls State: Our goal is to recruit, sponsor at least 3 girls to attend, fund raise, and find ways to improve this program.
*Americanism: Promote patriotism and responsible citizenship. Promote flag awareness. Encourage members, local businesses, and schools to fly flags. Conduct an essay contest for schools and junior members.
*Children & Youth: Emphasizes protecting, caring for, and supporting children and youth, particularly those of veterans’ and military families. Develop ways to fundraise.
*Community Service: Promote the ALA’s visibility in the community.
*Education: Support students, raise funds for poppy seals, raise funds for the Department Education Fund.
*Junior Activities: Increase membership and active participation in the unit.
*Legislative: Subscribe to The Dispatch, advocate for the legislative agenda of the Legion.
Liaison to Child Welfare Foundation: Promote education about CWF.
*National Security: maintains and promotes a strong national defense by strengthening and supporting military service members and their families.
*Poppy: Promote and educate people about the history of the poppy, and to make them aware of the sacrifices of our veterans.
*Veteran Affairs & Rehabilitation: promotes our mission to enhance the lives of veterans, military and their families.

MEMBER SUPPORT COMMITTEES

*Auxiliary Emergency Fund (AEF): The AEF provides temporary financial assistance to eligible members during times of financial crises or weather-related emergencies and natural disasters and promotes awareness and knowledge of the program. Coordinate fundraisers.
History: Organize Unit historical records.
Constitution & Bylaws: Promotes and educates members about properly written, reviewed, and updated documents.
Leadership: Raises awareness of ALA leadership development opportunities.
*Membership: Focus on member retention and unit goal, promote new membership.
*Past Presidents Parley: Use skills and knowledge and mentor other members. Fundraise for the Parley Nurses Scholarship Fund.
*Public Relations: Promote who we are and why we matter! Promote a positive image of the ALA. Get in the newspaper, news, and/or radio!

The unit provides reports pertaining to unit activity twice per year to District 29. Reports are then filtered up to the Department (State) and then National. Each Unit has a documented point system, and achieves awards and recognition for each accomplishment.
